What is NetKingdoms?

How does NetKingdoms work?

1. Install the free Chrome extension (30 seconds, Manifest V3)
2. Choose your faction: Builders, Specters, or Nomads
3. Browse normally — every domain you spend 12+ seconds on is automatically captured for your faction
4. Watch the live map evolve in real time as players across all factions compete for territory

There is no active gameplay required. The extension runs silently in the background. Your daily browsing is your contribution to the shared map.

How does territory capture work?

When you visit a domain and spend 12 seconds or more on it, it is automatically claimed for your faction. The 12-second threshold ensures only real, meaningful visits count — rapid tab-switching and accidental clicks are ignored.

• Ephemeral sites — bonus domains that appear for 24h and give ×5 points
• Contested zones — when two factions compete for the same domain simultaneously
• Clan forts — clans can fortify key territories to defend them
• 14-day seasons — the map resets each season; past snapshots are archived

What factions can I join?

• Builders (Fondeurs) — Bonus on tech, developer, and documentation sites (GitHub, Stack Overflow, npm, Vercel, Docker). Strength in the infrastructure of the internet.
• Specters (Spectres) — Bonus on social media and news domains (Reddit, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, BBC). Strength in attention and information flow.
• Nomads (Nomades) — Bonus on culture, niche, and undiscovered corners of the web (YouTube, Twitch, Letterboxd, itch.io). Strength in variety and the unexpected.

Faction choice is permanent for the duration of a season. Choose based on your natural browsing habits.

Is NetKingdoms free?

Yes. NetKingdoms is completely free — no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no premium tiers. The extension is free, the website is free, and the source code is open source and auditable on GitHub.

Is NetKingdoms private and safe?

NetKingdoms only collects the domain name (e.g., github.com) and a timestamp. Never the full URL. Never page content or titles. Never personal browsing history. The extension is open source and fully auditable. Privacy by design is a core principle, not an afterthought.

When can I join? — Season 0

NetKingdoms is currently in Season 0 (pre-launch). Both Chrome and Firefox extensions are available now. This is the best time to join — the map is almost entirely unclaimed, and every territory is yours to explore first.
