About

NetKingdoms · Season 0 · Pre-launch

NetKingdoms — NetKingdoms is a passive MMO that turns your everyday browsing into a territory war on a living map of the internet.

Install the Chrome or Firefox extension, pick a faction — Builders, Specters, or Nomads — and every domain you visit for 12+ seconds is captured for your faction. The map reflects the internet as it is truly browsed, not as it is theoretically organized.

Why this project?

The idea is simple: browsing data reveals how people truly use the internet. NetKingdoms makes that mapping visible, collective, and competitive — without ever collecting private data. Only the domain is transmitted. Never the full URL. Never the content.

Tech stack

  • Symfony 7 · PHP 8.2 · PostgreSQL 16
  • Chrome & Firefox Extension · Manifest V3 · TypeScript
  • Three.js
  • Hetzner · Caddy · Docker

Who is behind NetKingdoms?

NetKingdoms is a solo indie project. The idea started with a simple question: what if you visualised the internet not as it is catalogued, but as people actually browse it? The result is a living map built from the collective navigation habits of thousands of players — without ever collecting private data.

The philosophy

NetKingdoms is a passive game: you don't have to do anything special. You browse as usual, and the extension does the rest in the background. No objectives to chase, no planned gaming sessions. If you want to contribute to your faction or clan, you can — but if you forget the extension is running, it still maps. It's the internet as it's really browsed, not as it's theoretically organised.

Privacy by design

The extension only collects the domain name (e.g., github.com) and a timestamp. Never the full URL. Never page content. Never any personal data. If you have a question or an issue, reach us at jmcfunonline@gmail.com.
